Hotel Artukaisten Paviljonki in Turku has a rich historical background which will be interesting to note at the inception of this article. This building in which the hotel is presently housed is Finland’s first civilian airport, which was opened in 1935. Even though the commercial aviation was moved to a new airport in 1955, the Turku aviation airport remained in Artukainen until 1965.

This building was transformed into Hotel Artukaisten Paviljonki in 1999 and the extension building which houses all the guestrooms was opened a year later. The hotel is ideal for leisure travellers with families and large groups who are looking for a restful and quiet vacation, and also for corporate clients who need a peaceful venue to conduct business related matters.

The 55 guestrooms are mainly housed in the new building and feature contemporary amenities. Some of the guestrooms are large and can hold families and the hotel also converts its conference rooms, if necessary, into cozy accommodations for larger groups of visitors, which can hold about 10 persons. The hotel also has 2 junior suites and the facility of a wireless Internet connection is offered to all guestrooms as well.

The present in-house restaurant is located in the same place as it was during the airport times. The restaurant serves delicious meals in a traditional environment, and is open only for limited hours.

The two conference facilities are neat and simple – one for large groups and the other for smaller groups. Out of the two saunas in the hotel, the smaller one is housed in the historical air control tower.

Visitors planning to explore the city of Turku might find this hotel a bit out of the way, but the bus ride into the city will only take a short while.
